They say all the mountains are the same..totally not true! Tre Cime Di Lavaredo (3 Peaks of Lavaredo) is the most iconic rock of the Dolomites in Italy. The Tre Cime deserves a spot of your bucket list if you enjoy spectacular scenery.
We chose an easy path about 4 kilometer long around the base of Tre Cime. The are many other trails in this area including the via ferrata (steel climbing) trail. Along the hike I saw many climbers on the walls of the rock; I would love to try those trails when my kids are older.
Visiting Italy’s Dolomites has been such a pleasant experience! I could spend all day up there just taking in the sights and surroundings. Tre Cime maybe the most iconic rock, but the mountains around it are equally grand and spectacular.
Rifugio Auronzo
We started our walk at the Rifugio Auronzo. We had our own car, and the parking fee iss EUR30. But it is definitely worth the price as the parking up at the Rifugio was a spectacle by itself!! If you are travelling with your own car in high season, I highly recommend to get to the hut before 8.30am, it’s pretty busy – lots of people everywhere.
Rifugio Auronzo in the background. The hiking trail is fairly easy, suitable for all walks of life from 3 to 80. Without worrying too much of the steps lying ahead, one can truly enjoy the view, and take as many photos as they wish along the path.
All we need is the bless of a good weather! We took around 4 hours to complete the loop including a stop at one of the mountain hut.
Rifugio Lavaredo
Rifugio Lavaredo is located at the midway of the trail to Tre Cime. It seems to offer delicious food. But, it is very busy. Either plan to arrive for an early lunch or plan to wait for a table.
Tre Cime Di Lavaredo
There are countless breathtaking scenes all over the mountain range. To me, the most astonishing site is still Tre Cime. One got to see it to believe it! When I looked at the photos taken back in 6 years ago, I still find that the unique three peaks is totally awesome, Definitely worth a visit once in a lifetime.
Approaching Rifugio Locatelli
There are 3 trails from the pass to the hut. We are on the lowest trail. The upper trail is at the side of the rock walls. I believe the trail is for climbers.
Alta Via Dolomiti signifies a trek which is usually only feasible in multiple days subdivided into many stages based at mountain huts. These spectacular treks cut right through the Dolomites following well-signed footpaths accessible only suitably equipped hiker.
There are caves opening at the rock wall.
Can you see the climber at the upper trail? That trail would be exciting.
Rifugio Locatelli in its stunning location.
Rifugio Locatelli
The panorama is wonderful from Locatelli, not only for the Tre Cime, but also for the surrounding hills. This is one of the places I won’t mind to pay another visit in the future. May it preserve its tranquility forever and be free from the destruction of natural disaster.
